Education in Values

India is currently passing through a crucial period of development and progress. In the resent day India, when the forces of regionalism and secessionism are rampant and communals is being injected, renaissance of ‘value Education’ is the only ray of hope

The good and progressive system of education should incorporate value-oriented contems the curriculum, since it can inculcate essential values among learners values are dcse, related with aims of education. The term ‘value' literally means to be worth somethirg t’.at has a price or it can also be described as a criterion for judging the worth of the thi or people on desirable or undesirable. values are abstract and multidimensional and present a ideal for the members of the society to shape their personalities. value gives meaning anc strength to a person's character by occupying a central place in his life. values are the gud!r.g principles of life which are conducive to all round development. values are like the rails t.na keep a train on the track and help it move smoothly, quickly and with direction. They bn quality to life.

A Life without proper values will become chaotic and disastrous. It will be a boat wthott radar. To guide our life in the right path and to embellish our behavior with good qualities, we need values. Thus0 it is important to give a proper value orientation to an educational system.

Value-Oriented education implies a system of education which:

  • Attempts to balance knowledge with essential social skills.
  • Attempts to balance Science and Technology with ethics and religion.
  • Attempts to balance Quantitative expansion with Qualitative improvement.
  • Forms character besides training in skills.
  • Cultivates true citizenship sprit.
  • Gives due recognition to India's cultural heritage.
  • Works for the fulfillment of national goals.
  • Attempts to eliminate religion fanaticism, Superstition and fatalism.
  • Attempts to transcend linguistic & regional barriers.

Values in India:

According to the guidelines of Nutional Policy on Education and National Curriculum Framework for school Education, the following values need to be promoted in the schools.

      i. India's cultural heritage.
      ii. Equality of Sexes.
      iii. Protection of Environment
      iv. Equalitarianism, Democracy and Secularism.
      v. Constitutional obligation
      vi. Nurture of National Identity.
      vii. observance of small family norms
      viii. Removal of social barriers
      ix. India's freedom movement.
      x. Human rights. Including rights of child, especially of girl child.
      xi. Inculcation of personal and social values such as cleanliness, Compassion, Truthfulness, Integrity, Responsibility, Justice, Respect for law and order, Courage and the values cherished for the functioning of democracy.


School as a Sub-system of overall social organization, is expected to act as an agent of preserving and strengthening the social structure and should, therefore, translate the value system of the society in terms of aims and objectives for various school programmers. Keeping in view, the requirements of providing facilities for all round development of the child, the students should imbibe the above values and the schools should provide the necessary activities and programmes to inculcate them.

Value- Oriented Education: Ways and Means

  • Making participation in Morning Assembly compulsory which should include prayer. good thoughts, talks by teachers, students, Patriotic songs, etc,
  • organizing various clubs.
  • organizing programmes for the spread of literacy, for public safety. sanitation, improving civic sense, nursing the sick, and so on.
  • Displawing the best of the fundamental duties very prominently at the entrance af the school.
  • Displaying quotations from grear thinkers, on moral vanues at aln suitable comners of the school.
  • Holistic approach to Personality Development
  • Girl guiding activities.
  • organizing students self-government Mock Parliament, etc. in school.
  • organizing welfare activities in the school
